"Before the SACCO, my groundnuts went to middlemen for half price. Today I sell at full rate and borrow against my savings to pay school fees in time."
NUTOFA SACCO is the cooperative that pools the savings of tractor owners, operators, mechanics, dealers and farmers across Karamoja, Acholi, Lango and West Nile — so mechanization arrives the moment the rains do.
The constitution was adopted in September 2018. The formal SACCO was registered on 17 February 2022, C/S No. 12109/RCS.
NUTOFA brings every actor in the mechanization value chain under one roof — tractor owners, operators, mechanics, dealers and the smallholder farmers who depend on them. Together we pool a small monthly discipline, lend back at three times what each member saves, and route every tractor booking through one transparent register.
Members elect each other to office. Members guarantee each other's loans. Members vote at the AGM, one head one vote. The cooperative is built — quite literally — by the people it serves.
Individuals and institutions owning ≥ 1 tractor. Coordinate hire, access spares, earn brokerage through the SACCO.
Trained drivers registered on the SACCO roster. Get steady work, refresher training, and union representation.
Workshop and field mechanics. Toolkits, jobs through the hub, refresher courses, and bulk-spares discounts.
Equipment dealers, input suppliers, financiers, insurers — link with farmers through the hub for commission.
Smallholders, VSLAs and cooperatives. Affordable tillage, post-harvest handling, fair credit terms.
Eight service lines, one cooperative. Every one of them is open to members at subsidised rates and to non-members at standard rates.
Land opening, ploughing, harrowing, ridging. Booked at the hub; dispatched on SACCO-vetted iron with certified operators.
Brokered tractor and implement purchase through vetted dealers, with structured supplier financing for paid-up members.
Operator certification, mechanic refresher cycles, and tractor business management for fleet owners.
Compulsory and voluntary savings. Five loan products with a 3× ceiling rule. Asset accepted as collateral.
Pre-tillage site assessment, soil checks, supervised clearance for new acreage.
Post-harvest handling at the hub — so the price isn't stolen by the weather.
Direct linkage to authorised dealers. No grey-market parts. No absent after-sales support.
A network of 41 farmer groups and VSLAs ready for projects, supply contracts and training.
One regional Mechanization Hub in each sub-region — Acholi (Gulu), Lango (Lira), Karamoja (Moroto), West Nile (Arua) — serving a 100 km radius. Twelve satellite sub-hubs at high-demand sub-counties, each within 15 km of the farmer.
See the hub modelEvery loan is exclusive to paid-up members and ceilinged at three times your standing savings. Asset accepted as collateral. Free financial advice as a matter of cooperative duty.
"Before the SACCO, my groundnuts went to middlemen for half price. Today I sell at full rate and borrow against my savings to pay school fees in time."
"A cooperative cannot be neutral on what holds its members back. We hold each other's savings, vouch for each other's loans, and book each other's tractors."
"Five thousand nine hundred acres are already in the 2024 pipeline. Two tractors and full implement bundles, sized to UGX 600 M, projecting UGX 740 M revenue."
Membership is open to any adult eighteen and above, resident or operating in our area of jurisdiction. Bring an ID, two photos, and the will to save twenty thousand shillings a month. The rest, the cooperative figures out together.
Apwoyo — welcome.
